Dog Food Beef Stew Instant Pot
Wow, winter is almost here! We plan to get out and skate skiing this season. My husband and I are committed to figuring it out and get to the other side of the mountains and ski, with our dogs. Our dogs, you ask? Aren't they small? Yup! This last weekend my husband emerged from the basement asking, "did you want me to save these old skis for your crazy dog igloo idea?"
Sounds weird doesn't it? It's not really. Think cross between a styrofoam cooler and a big version of a 1980's Leggs Pantyhose container…. But on skis, with a hole in the top so my dog can stick his head out while I happily ski and pull him behind me in his cool contraption! Every year I try to talk my husband into making a little egg-shaped, insulated igloo that sits on skis. My plan? To take my dogs with us when we go skiing! I know, you can say it – bee-rilliant! My husband says I'm daft in the head for having the idea. Whenever we talk about my dog ski-igloo contraption, my husband stares at me with a bit of a twisted smile and says, "so you really think that will work, do ya?"
Yes I do! Clearly he does not. Some day though…. I will make my dog ski-igloo thingy, as God is my witness! Seriously though, I hope God isn't looking too closely at me… I may have to clean up my language some.
While my dog ski-igloo thingy may be years in the making, here's what I do vow to make for our pups this year. You can make it too, all you need is a pressure cooker and love!
Pressure Cooker Beef Stew Recipe – for Your Dog
- 1/2 Organic Squash
- 1 Organic Carrot
- 1 Head of Organic Broccoli
- 1 Bunch of Organic Kale
- 1/2 Cup Organic Blueberries
- 1 Pound of Organic Grass Fed Beef from Skagit River Ranch
- ZenaPet Immunity Boost (optional)
- 1/4 tsp Organic Nutritional Yeast (optional)
- 1/4 tsp Fish Oil per serving
Nutritional Information: Per Quarter Pound Serving: 400 calories, 25 grams protein, 14 grams fat, 400 grams potassium, good source of vitamins A & C, calcium, iron & magnesium.
Directions
Times vary depending on your pressure cooker (we love Fagor Pressure Cookers and of course the Instant Pot). Clean and chop all veggies to same thickness. Cut beef in to small, appropriate bite sized pieces. Place everything, minus the kale, blueberries and the supplements (last 3 ingredients), in the crock pot and cook according to maker's directions (ours is about three minutes). Use this time to de-stem, clean and chop the kale – and when the other items are cooked, carefully release the pressure and place the chopped up kale and blueberries on top and seal everything back up and let it set for 5 minutes.
After 5 minutes is up, viola – you are heretofore known as "Julia Childs to your dogs!" Pretty swanky title, eh? Dole out meal size portions into glass containers and seal tight, and feed within two days. When you're ready to serve your pup, just top with optional items and fish and mix all together – and add pre/probiotics too if you typically include in your pup's meals. This recipe feeds our four little dogs for two meals.

We often cook for our dogs, it really satisfies us to know that we are serving our pups healthy and nutritious meals – and we feel it expands our human-animal bond with them! Here's a little video of me doling out the second serving for our dogs – all of the oil and yeast is already mixed in. It's just a fun little clip, mostly to drive my dogs bananas while they sat at my feet staring up at me while I prepared their food.
